Migraines

Migraine is a primary headache disorder that can be disabling if not treated

It is characterised by unilateral (one-sided),retro-orbital (behind the eye),throbbing and some cutaneous (skin) sensory symptoms (ranging from numbness, pins and needles).

The sensory symptoms can sometimes involve the arm and/or leg on the same side as facial symptoms.

Associated symptoms include:

Photophobia (light worsening the headaches), phonophobia(sound worsening headaches). That is why, these patients prefer to be in a dark and quiet room during headache attacks.

They have intense nausea(go heroga dibete),with or without vomiting. They sometimes have “dizziness” in a form of true-vertigo, whereby they experience an altered sensation in space(sense that the world is moving).

Prior to headaches, they can experience some symptoms(referred to as aura),with some fatigue, mood symptoms of irritability, nausea and photopsias (things moving in the visual field).

Headaches can be aggravated by certain smells and foods.
